What Are The Symptoms Of Bladder Neck Hypertrophy?

I am 20 years old male. My urologist says I have BNH(bladder neck hypertrophy). And that I will have to take medicine for my whole life. Since surgery has not comprehensive results till date. I have talked to my urologist but still I want to ask your panel of experts a few questions:-
(1.) What are the symptoms of BNH?
(2.) What medical check ups or tests do we need to take to make sure if a person has BNH?
(3.) What are the treatment options to cure or control BNH?
(4.) Which medicines a patient needs to take if treatment through medicines are concerned(option that my urologist has suggested me)?
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern
Bladder neck is a group of muscles which connect bladder to urethra and these muscles hold and discharge urine by contracting and relaxing.
Symptoms may include incomplete emptying of urine, increased urgency and frequency of urination, urine incontinence, pelvic pain, delayed urine stream, urine infections, nocturia etc.
Diagnosis ..is done by fluoroscopic voiding cystourethrogram, cystoscopy, ultrasound etc.Key to the diagnosis is narrowing only at vesical neck
Treatment options include medications like alpha blockers and surgical intervention by doing transurethral incision of bladder neck
Many alpha blockers are there to choose from.
These are ALFUZOSIN ,DOXAZOSIN ,TAMSULOSIN ,TERAZOSIN etc.
I hope it helps however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

My symptoms were:-
(1.) Always an urge to urinate. And even after urinating that urge to urinate persisted.
(2.) Pain and sensation in urethra.
(3.) Mild pain in lower abdomen and lower back.
(4.) difficulty in initiating urine stream.
(5.) {the IMPORTANT one because it is quite different from what you have mentioned} An uncomfortable and irritating pain in right testicle and at the upper joint of right thigh.
I had these symptoms(more or less) since I was 13 or 14. But I only started acting on it a year ago.
At first I went to a general physician. I told him about my symptoms. He doubted that I might have cystitis. And asked me to undergo a few medical check ups which included whole abdomen ultrasound, urine test(routine and culture). But all reports were fine. Then he told me that I need to undergo cystoscopy.
But rather I chose to see a urologist. He learnt about my symptoms and went through my medical report(which were ok) and doubted that I might have BNH. he asked me to undergo Uroflowmetry test. And on the basis of the Uroflowmetry repot he confirmed that I do have BNH. And suggested me to take Alfuzosin-10mg (at night) and Naftopidil-50mg (at day). And said I need to take these medicines for lifetime.
Its been 9 months since I visited my urologist(he has asked me to visit afer a year). But still sometimes I experience frequency in urination and the pain in right testicle has negligible improvement. Do I need to act on that on it will go away with time?
Thank you
Read your reply.
Your testicular pain doesn't seem to have any connection with your urine complaints.
You must get an ultrasound of scrotum done to look at it.
Medicines prescribed are all right.
In addition I would advise you to start doing yoga, deep breathing exercises and pranayama. These measures help in de stressing you and which may help in relaxation of muscles.
Carry on with your medicines.
Thanks

Masturbation doesn't result in any testicular pain or penile pappules or any lump on penis.
If you have pearly penile pappules, then there is nothing to be done however it should be differentiated from genital warts which are caused by HPV.
As far as lump on penis is concerned, there can be several reasons for it which can be differentiated by physical examination by your doctor.
In case there is nothing found on examination, then nothing is to be done.
As far as side effects of medicines are concerned, the most common side effects are dizziness,Headache and fatigue, however there is a very long list of side effects caused by them.In general these drugs are tolerated very well in longterm but still very few people can get some of those side effects.
It would be better for you to go to Internet and read about the possible side effects caused by them, however there is nothing to get upset or worried about them after reading them because they are very rare happenings and such type of rare happenings can happen to anybody taking any medicine.
As far as exercises are concerned keep doing gym but,in addition, start doing some de stressing exercises as mentioned above.
Gymming and yoga are entirely different.
Thanks
