What Are The Symptoms Of Blood Clot In Leg?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2015
Question: Pain in my right leg, not consistently, but very often. What are the symptoms of a blood clot. I take an estrogen replacement, but I smoke, which I know from the warnings label could lead to complications . Am not sure if this might just be a pinched nerve, arthritis, or muscle degeneration.

Brief Answer:
Pain and swelling at rest.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
A blood clot is usually associated with a pain in the leg at rest. The pain can be aggravated on walking. This is associated with swelling of the leg. Color doppler scan of the leg is needed to confirm the diagnosis.
Experiencing pain in legs and calf specially on walking indicates a vascular problem most likely. The pain may be caused by claudication caused by peripheral arterial disease (PAD), narrowing of the arteries that carry blood to your leg muscles.
Muscles may also cramp, causing significant pain. This may be due to a lack of stretching or an imbalance of electrolytes in the bloodstream. You need to get your serum sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium levels checked.
All the above causes can be ruled out by your physician after some tests and examination.
