The symptoms of chronic microvascular hyperintensities include weakness of legs, hands, walking problems, speech problem, memory & cognitive dysfunction problem, urinary incontinence and so on.

The prognosis depends upon if a patient had a clinical stroke or not. Patients with high BP and diabetes can be largely asymptomatic even if the MRI shows such changes. Hence, the outcome is to be correlated with clinical data rather than imaging data alone.
