Question : What are the symptoms of inguinal hernia,? I have what seems like spasms lower abdomen, extending to right testicle, Some days not much pain, other days extreme pain to the point of being unable to do anything , The only relief is a hot shower and or Biofreeze cold therapy pain relief gel over lower right abdomen area. {Note} I have had a ultra sound of area, and of affected testicle, Im told nothing unusual found. I had a normal X-Ray looking for stones, Nothing found. I was denied CAT scan by insurance, Question.... Would a CAT scan show what the problem is? This problem started over a month ago, and the pain, and frequency are increasing... Any suggestions of actions would be GREATLY appreciated.... Thank You... XXXXXXX K.

Brief Answer:
Inguinal hernia will present with swelling most of the times

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

An inguinal hernia will present as swelling over the groin area. In the initial stages, it is seen only while coughing. Later, the swelling will appear and it extends into the scrotum in course of time.

Ultrasound will give a clue regarding the hernia.
It could be musculoskeletal pain.
The testicle is suspended from the spermatic cord.Torsion of the Testis will occur in some individuals while straining. If the Testis is twisted one round and comes back to its original position, the pain will be severe initially, later it subsides. If it is twisted more, then gangrene will occur in the Testis. There is a condition called Intermittent testicular torsion. Here, it gets twisted and comes back to the original position after some time. You might be having this condition. It can only be diagnosed by Colour Doppler of the scrotum only when you have pain.

CT scan will not be necessary.
Please consult a Surgeon or Urologist and proceed further.

Till then, you should use a skeletal muscle relaxant tablet containing Thiocolchicoside.
Nothing to worry
Hope I answered your question. If you have any doubts, I will clarify further

Brief Answer:
Surgery has to be done

Detailed Answer:
Hi
If at all Intermittent testicular torsion is confirmed, there are no specific measures to prevent it.
Surgery has to be done and fix the Testis so that it will not get twisted.
After Surgery, you can start your routine work after 1 week.
Nothing to worry
Regards
