Can nasal drainage cause throat ulcers? Ive been having some pretty severe drainage down the back of my throat due to allergies and was wondering if that could be a contributing factor.

Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. A Post Nasal Drip (PND) is unlikely to cause throat ulcers. It causes throat irritation and sometimes, infection. Sometimes, infections may lead to ulcers.
2. Get your allergy tests done. These should include food intolerance tests.
3. Treatment for reflux and allergies will help.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

What causes throat ulcers? I dont think i have one since it doesnt hurt to breathe or dry swallow. Only really acidic drinks. It may just be irritated but it does feel like theres something stuck in my throat. Does that sound like an ulcer?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. Yes, these symptoms do not seem to be of a throat ulcer.
2. The aerated drinks may be a cause of the irritation in the throat.
3. The feeling in the throat is usually due to inflamed lymphoid (tonsil-like) tissue normally present in the throat.
4. Acid reflux and allergy also worsen these symptoms.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.
