Question: MY 14 year old daughter was sent home from school yesterday because of vomiting. she hasn't vomited today but we just noticed a rash tat seems to be spreading all over her body. She is extremely itchy. She hasn't had a fever at all and doesn't have any other symptoms. Just wondering what this could be?

Brief Answer:
Viral Gastritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Your child's problem seems to be due to a viral gastritis. Make sure that she has a sizable breakfast before leaving for school. An overnight long gap between meals would essentially lead to accumulation of stomach acids (which are meant to help in digestion but the food simply does not come). The excess acids, thereby collect and irritate the stomach walls, which leads to throwing up. This is therefore caused due to the injury caused by stomach acids. The itch and rash is due to the viral cause.

In order to provide relief, you need to ask for the following:

*Give Cetirizine. It will help in relieving the rash and itch.
*Avoid spicy food.Take small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps between meals.
*Give Lanzol Junior tablet(Lansoprazole)/Nexium(Esomeprazole) once daily before breakfast.
*Give plenty of green leafy vegetables as well as other sources of dietary fibers. Take fiber supplements like Isabgol/psyllium husks. I would insist you to increase the dietary fiber intake.
*Regular playing or exercise for at 1 hour a day to keep the bowel movements proper.
*Give curd or yogurt on daily basis. It contains beneficial bacteria and should help.

Hope I have answered your query.
