Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Cold sores usually go away in two weeks, however, it may sometimes take a few days longer. If there is no pain and scabbing, but only redness, as you mention, I recommend you use lemon balm or aloe-vera gel multiple times per day. This will help the sore disappear faster and the skin to restore to its normal stare.
If there is pain, swelling and scabbing which persist I recommend you see a dermatologist.
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

There is no pain or swelling it is just red and will not go away. Do you have an estimate on how long it will take to go away if I'm using aloe vera gel because I've been using it for about 4 days now and it's still there?
