Question: I have muscle and nerve damage throughout my body caused by a statin drug no longer on the market (too many died, I was lucky). As I have aged with this condition, I have little sensation to know that I have to urinate or have a bowel movement. I have continual urine leakage...incontinence pads last one to two hours, then the dampness wakens me.Since the muscle and nerve damage17 years ago, drugs that were previously safe for me to take, are no longer safe, multiple side effects on a wide range of medication families: antibiotics, sulfa drugs, anti vert, water pills, blood pressure meds. Looking for some help. Urogynocologist sending me to physical therapist/biofeedback person to try to retrain muscles and nerves. Almost all meds are aimed at over active bladders have side effects I already am living with: weakness, muscle weakness, dizzyness, etc. Any suggestions? e-mail: YYYY@YYYY .

Brief Answer:
Rehab and Biofeedback for overactive bladder

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Have you tried kegel's exercises? These exercises are commonly recommended, they can help strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor, shoring up those that control both bladder and bowel.

At this time what your doctor is doing seems right. Physical rehabilitation with biofeedback sounds a better way with so much of side effects you had with medicines.

You should also consult a PMR / Rehabilitation specialist for a second opinion on the same. Stop taking all bladder irritants like sodas, sugars, chocolate, caffeine, acidic foods, yogurt, spicy food.

Similarly you can check for alternate treatments with herbs.

Hope I have answered your query.
