Question: My mother aged 84 years is taking dicorate 250 and quitipin 25 for age related behavioural problems/ dementia and anxiety depression (thats what Doctors say) in addition to 30mg gardenal and BP tablets. She had surgery 15 years back for brain meningioma and her movement is slightly restricted. Otherwise ok. Since 2 months we reduced the dicorate and quitipin to half as she became physically very weak. Now she has picked up and is ok physically but over anxiety is still there repeats the same topic over and over and is sometimes aggressive and can not control her emotions and easily gets irritated. What can be done

Brief Answer:
There is need for in person consultation

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

From the available description it appears to me that your mother is suffering with dementia and related behavioural symptoms due to age and dementia. The problem is often complex and need in person consultation as there is no treatment which suits everybody. I mean to say that without physically examine her and without having a dialogue it is never possible to prescribe medications to such patients.

In my opinion you need to consult a psychiatrist in your city, preferably geriatric psychiatrist as she needs special care for management of her behaviour problems.

I also take this opportunity to inform you that Quitipin is well suited for this purpose and her doctor was right in prescribing this medication. However I feel that Dicorate have very limited role for this purpose in most patients.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
