Brief Answer:
If your child is gaining weight according his age, then he should be ok

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

I understand your concern.

From what I understand you have a 3 month baby that is constipated or have diarrhea from time to time.
It is normal for the babies to have similar problems. Sometimes they stay days without passing stool (up to 5 days) and other days they pass stool multiple times/day. That is normal, because his bowel is not used with having a regular regime.
Are you feeding your baby with breast milk? Or giving him formula? I would recommend to not give him anything else other then breast milk (if you are not breastfeeding him, then formula prepared for his age, should be ok too, but ideal is breast milk). He doesn't need water or other foods until he goes 5 months. You will notice he will be hungry by that time, and will ask for more milk or other added foods gradually in his diet.
An indicator that he is growing normally is if he is gaining weight. I understand he is eating and sleeping well, so if he is gaining weight, then you don't need to worry about him/her.

Anyway, make sure to follow him up with a pediatrician, so can examine him and see if something is not going as it should.
Ask me any question you have also, I will be happy to answer.

Take care,
Dr. Papaqako
