Question : Hi doctor, I gave my daughter iron drops and she is vomiting immediately can I stop them?

Hi,

I have gone carefully through your question. However, you have not mentioned the age of the child and the exact reason for which the iron supplementation has been given. Iron is an irritant to the stomach and can precipitate vomiting. You can stop it for the time being but possibly it would need to be given again. Give it after meals when you next start it. I would be able to comment further after getting your inputs.

As of now give ORS (oral rehydration solution) and some emetic like ondansetron to control the vomiting and to ensure that the hydration is proper.

She is 6 months old and her weight is 6kg I gave her tonaferon 0.7ml my pediatrician suggested it

Thanks for the update. I assume that you were asking about stopping of the vomiting and not about stopping of the iron drops. As of now, give ORS (oral rehydration solution) and some emetic like ondansetron to control the vomiting and to ensure that the hydration is proper. You may continue to give Tonoferon drops once daily after feeds.

Vomiting has stopped but it is happening every day after the drops so should I continue iron drops or change them?

In that case you can try Orofer XT Drops (same dose). Domstal Suspension 0.3 ml can be given 15 mins prior to giving the drops. Are you giving the drops before or after meals?
