Question: What can be the cause my head will feel fuzzy or full of air, at the same time I start breathing fast, and feel awful. I was told I had allergy related asthma several years ago. I do cough occasionally, but not at the time I feel this way. This has been occuring frequently in the last several weeks am not taking any medication that I have not taken for years

Brief Answer:
recent onset of not feeling right

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms. XXXXXXX and welcome to Ask A Doctor service. I have read your query and here is my advice.

What do you mean by feeling awful? Tired? Enough sleep? Seizures? Headaches?
Of course, asthma could cause you to breathe fast.

Has your physician ever examined you, listened to your lungs while you were breathing rapidly?
Have you had tests where you blow into a tube to measure how much air your lungs can hold and how fast you can blow the air out of your lungs? These might tell whether your lungs are affected by asthma even when you are not coughing/wheezing.

Fast breathing can also be caused by:
a heart arrhythmia
anemia
anxiety
People with anxiety may also have tremors and excessive worry about self or others.
Please provide this additional information.

I am here waiting to hear back from you.

I know it is not anxiety
I had the test you mentioned years ago when I was diagnosed with allergy asthma.
No I have not had a doctor listen while having a breathing problem since it only occurs for an short while to an hour at a time. I mentioned it to my doctor a couple weeks ago, when she listened to my lungs and said they were clear.
The feeling awful is when I am having one of the spells, maybe a better word is weak almost like I could pass out.
Sorry, I am not good at explaining things, I am acumston to ignoring .

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for returning Ms. XXXXXXX I hope additional information will be useful.
People can feel weak and pass out if they are not eating properly or drinking adequately(this is of special concern when weather is HOT).
How has your weight been?
Other causes for weakness or passing out:
-kidney disease
-anemia
-arthritis
-depression
-postural orthostatic tachycardia(when persons with POTS stand up their heart rate increases significantly and their blood pressure drops)

If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. If you do; however, please continue.
Wish you good health.
