Brief Answer:
There will be risk of inflammation in the postoperative period.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.
I reviewed your history.
Acuvail eye drops is anti-inflammatory eye drop and it is usually started 1-3 days prior to cataract surgery to prevent inflammation after surgery.
Along with this Vigamox an antibiotic and this eye drop is used to prevent risk of infection.

Pred forte is steroid drug and this usually started in the post operative period.

Hence if the patient posted for cataract surgery has not used Acuvail eye drop there is little risk for inflammation in the postoperative period.

Hope this information is helpful to you.

Thank you

Hi
Thanks for your reply. So just so I understand your answer clearly if she IS taking Vigamox 24 hours before cataract surgery but IS NOT taking Acuvail and Pred Forte before and after the surgery how much risk is there?

Brief Answer:
The risk of postoperative inflammation is present.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Since Vigamox is started before surgery there is no risk of infection.
Since Acuvail is not taken before there will be risk of inflammation.
However this risk is minimal and she can start taking acuvail eye drops now and tomorrow before surgery.
If you want to totally reduce this risk you can postpone the surgery by 1-2 days.

Hope this information is helpful to you.

Thank you

She is NOT going to use Acuvail or Pred Forte either before or after her surgery because she is allergic to aspirin type drugs.

Is there a risk she will have permanent loss of sight after her cataract surgery if she NEVER uses Acuvail or Pred Forte?

She will use Vigamox as prescribed.

Brief Answer:
Steroid eye drops are required after cataract surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

After surgery steroid eye drops are compulsorily required. Even if she is allergic to aspirin drugs steroid eye drops like Predforte or dexamethasone can be used.

Acuvail is optional one as steroid eye drops can control the inflammation as well.

Hence discuss with your doctor regarding this before surgery only.

Hope this information is helpful to you.

Thanks

As you say Predaforte and dexamethasone are both steroids.

Are there any non steroid anti-inflammatory drops that do NOT have aspirin ingredients?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
