My wife, aged 47 years is suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome and GERD. We have consulted a Gastroenterologist and got endoscopy and colonoscopy done. There are no irregularities in the reports. The doctor had prescribed Meva C for around 3 months. Initially she had some relief but later on the same symptoms are continuing. We had consulted one more doctor subsequently and he suggested to take IMODIUM alternate days . She has been taking IMODIUM on alternate days for the last 3 months. There is definitely some relief but the problem is persisting.

Hi Roypina,
Thanks for the query. I have read it and understood your concern.
Irritable bowel syndrome is caused by irregular bowel habits with digestion problems. The causes could be bowel infections,infestations/food allergies like gluten or lactose allergies..or defeciency digestive enzymes...these basic causes need to be investigated for.You got all advanced investigations like scopies...but these simple tests have not been mentioned.
Finding the basic cause&treating it along with life style changes and needful enzyme or lactobacillus suppliments would definately help her.
She has been given medicines to control the symptoms ,but basic cause remains unattended...
please disciuss this with your gastroenterologist&get some specific treatment.
Bloating she has...can be due to basic cause/emodium over use causing side effect /distruction of normal intestinal flora leading to more gas formations. These need a total broad approach in treating the condition.
please discuss all the points with your doctor.
You can think of getting a second opinion after extensive examination.
I hope that helps.Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
