Brief Answer:
Most likely the flu.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The symptoms are in keeping with a viral illness most likely the flu.

The flu would cause sore throat and aches and pain.

Though the common cold can also cause sore throat, it is not commonly associated with pain and severe general unwell feeling.

Other symptoms that may or may not occur are fever, congestion, cough etc

In many cases the flu can be managed at home, but when symptoms are severe then an initial assessment should at least be done.

Oral and topical pain killers help with discomfort in the throat and joints/muscles eg advil.

Topical pain killers such as chloroseptic or covonia throat spray can also be used as well.

Even if their appetite is decreased and they do not want to eat , should try and continue fluids.

If other symptoms occur (eg congestion, cough), then over the counter cough/cold meds, may help. eg robitussion or mucinex (if develop a wet cough).

Their doctor may add additional meds based on their assessment.

I hope this helps.
