What Can Hypodensity Under 1 Cm Possibly Be?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Jun 2024
Question: I was diagnosed with stage 3a chromophobe renal cell carcinoma in . All of my scans have been no evidence of disease. I have no genetic mutations or familial history. My last scan showed a hypodensity under 1 cm too small to characterize. What can this possibly be?

I'm sorry . I forgot to specify that I had a total nephrectomy of the kidney with the cancer. And the hypodensity appeared in my remaining kidney.

Brief Answer:
In most cases it is likely cortical cyst but needs follow up

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

Hope you are not in much discomfort,
The report is telling us about a small lesion in the right kidney that is less than 1 cm as you have pointed out. In most cases this might be a cortical kidney cyst and not due to serious concerns,

However it will be good to do an ultrasound of the kidney and try and know any particular further characteristics as the CT images are not able to tell much.

If you need your CT images to be reviewed by me then please send me download link of the images as follow up.

Regards and thanks,
