Most likely a herniated intervertebral disc.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking ask a doctor service.
I have gone through your query with diligence. Your problem can be most likely a herniated intervertebral disc. This can cause spasm and pain over back area.
For this condition I would suggest NSAIDs Iike Ibuprofen and muscle relaxants like Thiocolchicoside or chlorzoxazone for 1 week. Ibuprofen (Motrin) is available as over the counter. Other two are prescription drugs. You can also apply gels containing diclofenac and methylsalicylate and apply hot water bags on back.
After 5 days I would suggest doing physiotherapy like TENS. This will be helpful in getting relief. If there is no relief then a consultation with orthopedician and MRI of spine should be done to rule out any severe nerve impingement caused by the herniated disc. In such cases surgical correction will be required.
Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help.
Thanks.
