Question : I think my dad has an old cyst on his neck. We tried To pop it once but it grew back a bit bigger. I tried again today and it kept draining with no end in sight. Eventually After a long time of squeezing he told me to stop. I think it was a mistake to try to pop as it was benign. What can my dad do to reduce risk of infection?

Brief Answer:
Regarding the management of cyst after popping it

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

By popping it, you have of course exposed it to risk of infection. I would suggest you to give him a course of an oral antibiotic e.g either Amoxicillin+ clavulanic acid or Cephalexin, three times a day for a week. Oral antibiotics are prescription medication. In addition I suggest you to clean the area, twice daily with a sterile swab soaked in betadine solution,.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance
