Posted on Fri, 28 Nov 2014
Question: What can cause a white blood count of 25,000 with no signs of infection? I have had ITP for 20 years and had chemotherapy in 2000 for ITP. Could they be connected?

Brief Answer:
I don't think it is related to your history of ITP

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

Generally increased WBC count indicates infection.Infection may be asymptomatic.
Empirically your doctor has rightly prescribed antibiotics.
However, other causes should also be ruled out if findings persists. It is important to know about other parameters of blood count like RBC and platelet count. It is important to know about immature cells in WBC count.
If these findings are normal, then there is no need to be worried.

Further investigations can be done if needed.
