What Cause Swelling On The Right Side Of The Face?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 May 2017
Question: I am currently having swelling on the right side of my face and cheek. I went to my dentist and he took x-rays but did not have any findings. He has put me on antibiotics because of the swelling and discoloration of the gums. He said that my teeth are fine but believes that it could be a problem with my parotid gland. If it is my parotid gland what would be the next step for me to take. He has also suggested an oral surgeon.

Brief Answer:
Treatment depends on the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing in,

There are various pathologies associated with parotid glands. There can be abscess, cyst, tumor, stones. Firstly, you need to check with the oral surgeon and the treatment will depend on the cause.

If it's due to stones then it needs surgery, abscess requires incision and drainage and tumor needs removal.

So please get your diagnosis done by the Oral physician check-up and a few relevant investigations then show me the reports as well so that I can guide you specifically.

Hope I answered your query, please feel free to ask further.

Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
Trauma or infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Stones can be caused due to trauma in the gland where as abscess occurs due to infection in the gland. Its better to get the diagnostic x-rays and scans done to get the proper diagnosis.

Thanks & Regards
