Question: hi I have been on bacterium , prednisone, and clindamycin for almost 6 weeks for treating reactive toxoplasmosis . I ran out of clindamycin on Friday , I started yesterday morning with what looks like allergic reaction I have whelps that came out on my arms and stomach area and itch really bad , I haven't eaten or used anything new , I did take a midol being it had antihistamine in it and it helped a little , last night I was ok the whelps went away and itching stopped then I took my second dose of bacterium and within a few hours I broke out in whelps again could this be from bacterium even though I been on it this long or could this be from some thing else ,I do have app tomorrow with retina specialist for recheck on my eyes for toxoplasmosis but didn't know if this is something I should go to er for or not, thanks

Brief Answer:
Please stop taking bacterium until you see your doctor;see following...

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

From what you are describing, the use of second dose of bacterium have cause a break out in whelps again. This is suggestive that bacterium is causing allergy reaction to you.

At this point, I advise to stop using it until you see your doctor tomorrow.

I understand you've been using it for long period, but, it is a well know fact the delayed allergy reaction. In other words, some types of medications (including bacterium) won't cause allergy since the beginning but during the course or end of treatment. This is what I think is happening to you.

Furthermore, in other cases, the change in drug brand can also be a cause. Sometimes, the inactive ingredients might be causing the allergy at some point of treatment while the active ingredient (bacterium) is not the primary cause to allergy.

If you stop taking bacterium under this trademark and take another bacterium under another trade-name (company), and see if allergy will still occur or not.

You can discuss this further with your doctor during the tomorrow's appointment. For now, I can only suggest to stop taking bacterium as long as it makes you break out in whelps.

Hope it was of help! Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
