Question : Hi, I had blood drawn today at 5:00 PM. She drew the blood from my right arm on the ulnar side of the forearm, just in the crook of my elbow. I now have a bruise and a hard lump about the size of a 25 cent gum ball. Not sure if this is a blood clot or something else. Not sure what to do...

1. It appears to be hematoma or a blood clot.
2. After drawing of blood, we usually ask the patient to press at the site, where the blood was drawn. Sometimes, patients do not put adequate pressure, and blood seeps out forming a hematoma. This is a blood clot. Superficially it will appear like a bruise.
3. Not to worry, it will slowly dissolve. Avoid excessive movement of the arm for 1-2 days. Slowly it will get dissolved. The color change will be like a wound, slowly will become dark red, brown, black and then it will become normal.
4. You can use a band aid to cover the site, where the blood is drawn. Not to worry. You can apply moist heat, if any pain is present. Do not worry.
