What Causes A Bump On The Neck And Cough?

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Oct 2016
Question: My daughter got a little bump/Rash on the neck on last thursday and she started having cough since Friday.

The Bump on the bottom/side(towards little back) of the neck was little hard and swealing and she complained about the pain when I touched. on Saturday, we saw that the bump has a little mark, which was seemed like the bug bite.

Now after 4 days, Cough got better and the swelling got down but we see that little hard when we touch and also there is a kind of fuss forming on the bump/rash.

Can you please look at the image and let me know if this is a bug-bite or is is a swelling of the lymph node on the neck ?

Brief Answer:
Hello. This is an abscess

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I looked at your picture. This may have started out as folliculitis--an infected hair follicle--but now it's developed into a pus filled abscess.

If this drains on its own it may resolve but, if not, she needs to see a doctor for an incision and drainage of the area and a course of oral antibiotics.

Warm compresses may bring it to a head and cause it to drain but I think it would be better just to have a doctor look at it.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Doctor Dr. XXXXXXX Chambers,
Thank you for Responding to my question.

Is Abscess associted to Cough/cold ?

I was thinking that it was the lymph node swelling because of cold. Do you mean that lymph nodes swelling looks completely different ?

What could be the cause of abscess ?

2 months back, she got the similar 3 bumps on her leg. When we visited the doctor, she said that it could be the Bug-Byte and asked us to give benadryl and some antibiotic ointment . the bump got cleared within a week.

Can we wait for few more days to see if it gets cured by itself ?

Thanks so much.

Brief Answer:
This isn't a lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
You can wait a while and this isn't related to the cough or the cold.
