What Causes A Constant Throbbing Centralized Headache?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Feb 2017
Question: I almost never have headaches but one started about 3 weeks ago over my left eye and is now more centralized....It is constant throbbing and wakes me at night. I don't take pills unless I eat something so the headache stays till I eat and take excedrin. That seems to be the only pill that helps.

I also tried sudafed for the headache.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are suggestive of migraine.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your clinical details. Based on this, the most likely diagnosis is migraine (a type of vascular headache).

However, migraine onset at this age is uncommon, so, a brain scan should be done to rule out ischemia (reduced blood supply to brain).

As of now, anti-migraine medicine such as topiramate may be started to reduce the severity and frequency of headaches.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
