Brief Answer: It could be a (Bartholin's) Cyst/polyp/prolapse! Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about this feeling of fullness in your vaginal. This raises the suspicion of a mass in the vaginal. The most common cause of masses in the vaginal is a Bartholin gland cyst or abscess. However, it would be very difficult to make a definite call on this as other possible causes like pelvic organ prolapse can present with similar symptoms. I wil advice that you consult an OBGYN for a proper examination and investigations to pinpoint the exact cause and treat accordingly. This is not a life threatening condition and you can actually plan and go in at your earliest convenience unless something else happens. Treatment would be totally dependent on what the final diagnosis. I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well and please feel free to ask for further clarifications and information if need be. Thank you so much for using our services and I hope this get addressed early enough to relief you of the discomfort. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Thanks for your prompt response. I had a pelvic ultrsasound done a couple of weeks ago. No one has called. Hopefully, no news is good news. The doctor that came in after the test was performed said that there was no mass to be seen & that he would report back to my gyno. I will be scheduling an appointment with my gyno soon. I am consulting you for a second opinion.

Brief Answer: Thanks Detailed Answer: Thank you for this follow up information. If the examination didn't reveal a mass, then this would be very unlikely. The ultrasound would provide the definite answer on this. With a mass as a possible cause put aside, we would need to examine and make sure you have not pelvic prolapse. This happens when the floor supporting the pelvic organs is weakened and the organs start pushing further down into the vaginal tha usual. This can cause these symptoms of fullness. I will turn my attention to this and make sure it is not the cause or confirm and get it addressed. A visit with your OBGYN would provide definitive answers to this.let me know what comes out of your appointments. This will enable me to chip in ore ideas if need be. I wish you the best of possible outcomes. Dr. Ditah,MD.

When the doctor said that there is no mass could he have meant only in the uterus or does a pelvic ultrasound encompass the observation of the vaginal canal entrance as well? Please excuse my ignorance. Thank you.

Brief Answer: Did you get a vaginal examination? Detailed Answer: Hi and thanks for following up with me. Please, your are well learned as I can tell from our discussions. We simply do not master every other field not because we are not smart enough but simply because we had other more exciting fields we wanted to explore. I am sure you are great with your field of expertise. The ultrasound cannot look deep down into the vaginal. However, it can see the upper part of it. If you didn't get a vaginal examination, then your OBGYN would strongly consider doing so. The ultrasound is best at assessing the uterus and other pelvic organs but not the vaginal. I hope this helps. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.

So sorry for being so confused. The doctor did put a probe into the vagina to look at the uterus. This is why I am confused. I thought that he would also be able to check that area during the pelvic ultrasound. I had both the normal ultrasound (on the outside) and the pelvic.

Brief Answer: The vaginal was examined! Detailed Answer: Hi and thanks for following up with me. With the intravaginal probe, it means the vaginal was also checked. When both the outside and the inside ultrasounds are done, it offers greater chances to identify any abnormality. These two together make it more likely that no mass could have easily been missed. I will suggest that you follow up with the OGYN at this time and let me know what the outcome of that visit is. Also, specifically raise the concern of a possible prolapse so that she can be more alert and specifically assess for that. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.
