What Causes A Lump Behind The Ear?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Nov 2016
Question: Do cancerous lumps behind ear go away and come back or is this a cyst? I had a small lump behind my ear for 2 months and my doctor and my dermatologist said it was a cyst and he injected it with steroids. It went away for 8 days completely, but today I can feel it again. Its not as big as it was, but I can feel it again. Its moveable and firm. You can only feel it, not see it. I'm worried it wasn't a cyst after all. Does this sound like a cancerous lump or cyst? My derm can't see me again for another 2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
It can be cyst, lymphnode or rarely cancerous lump.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You have lump behind ear. It can be some cyst or reactive lymphnode. Chances of cancerous lump is very low.

You should go for fine needle aspiration cytology of that lump.

It will give you exact diagnosis. Then you should plan accordingly.

No cancerous lump does not go away and then come back again.

Generally it is cyst or reactive lymphnode. Both can come back again. Chances of cancer are very negligible.
