Question : Hi. My 14 yr old son was awakened by a pain that feels like a bruise or pulled muscle in the front of his neck that he didn't have when he went to sleep. It's slightly above his collar bone, on lower neck. When I barely pressed it (to make sure I understood where), he reacted with pain.
Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to costochondritis.

I have gone very carefully through your query and have checked the attached image. It is hard to comment without a careful clinical examination but it could be due to an entity called costochondritis where the cartilage (the structure joining the rib with our breast bone) gets inflamed. If that is the case, taking pain killers or paracetamol/acetaminophen should help.
