Question : Sitting at my desk and all of a sudden a stinging pain and small red dot on my calf. I think I have been biten by something. Anything I can do to stop the annoying somewhat painful stinging every so often?

If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to apply cortisone cream on the affected area twice daily for 7-8 days and take antihistaminic like tablet Chlorpheniramine 4 mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of itching and stinging.
This will resolve the symptoms as well as the red dot in few days time.
