What Causes A Painful, Swollen And Numb Spot On The Thumb?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Apr 2016
Question: I have a swollen spot on the side of my thumb. I've had it for about two weeks now. It feels numb to touch and hurts if bumped. I had stupidly pulled a piece of cuticle instead of cutting and the swelling started shortly after. Will this just go away or do I need to see a dr.?

Brief Answer:
Please attach a photo.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of the swelling? It will be much easier to give valuable answer.

Generally if there is no infection (no redness and pulsation), no fracture, the swelling should go away by its own without any medical attention.
It usually takes few weeks to heal soft tissues injury. Till that time, lukewarm compresses are the best you can do.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
