What Causes A Right-sided Tender Sore Discolored Area Above The Waist?

Question: Hi I am a 50 yr old female, non smoker, overweight but active and I am in therapy for binge drinking. I have an area on my right side, which is very tender and is just above my waist. The soreness is about the size of a small orange and feels like it's bruised. I have not fallen, had any trauma etc to that area. It does look slightly discolored but more from the inside rather than external, if that makes sense. Thank you.

It could be due to rupture of blood vessel

Hi,

Discoloration in that region could be due to rupture of a blood vessel. It can occur spontaneously.
If the discolored area is limited and not spreading, the haematoma (blood collection) will
resolve spontaneously.

If the area is spreading, then exploration has to be done and tie the bleeding vessel.
Please consult your doctor, get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.

Ultrasound abdomen will give a clue. Contrast enhanced CT scan abdomen will confirm the diagnosis.
