What Causes A Slight Intermittent Pain In Armpits?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: I am starting to get concerned.

6 and a half weeks ago now I was in sexual contact with my boyfriend. We were both naked and he was rubbing his penis against my vagina, but there was no penetration. This was two days before my period was due.

Two days after this my period came, so right on time. It was completely normal, lasting around 5 days and a normal flow.

I was not in any sexual contact the next month.

28 days after the period just mentioned, my next "period"came. However, unlike my normal period I had a light brown discharge instead. This lasted five days. On one evening I went to the bathroom and there was normal blood, but this cleared and the brown discharge continued. There was normal blood again one morning, and again it cleared and the discharge continued for another day or so. I started to get concerned cause I read that this sort of "period" could actually be implantation bleeding.

After this "period" finished I had a persistent pelvic and lower back ache which furthered my pregnancy concerns. This pain has lasted about a week and a half and now seems to have eased.

I took a urine pregnancy test a week and a half after this "period" started and it was negative.

However I am still concerned.

Two days ago (which would be almost 2 weeks since the odd period), my breasts became quite tingly. This has continued today.

I am also experiencing a slight, intermittent pain in my armpits.

My main concern is the possibility of pregnancy, and if not, what else could be up.

Any advice is much appreciated

Brief Answer:
Can be due to anxiety related stress or hormonal imbalances

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in details.
From your above mentioned query, it is less likely that you might be having a pregnancy.

A pregnancy test is usually accurate when done any time 15 days after probable unprotected sex. Since your sex incident happened over 6 and a half weeks back, and you had normal periods after it followed by the odd periods, it is almost certain that you do not have a pregnancy if your tests are negative.

However, certain medical conditions can cause alteration in periods and you must get investigated for hormonal problems like polycystic ovaries or abnormal thyroid function tests.

It can also be that anxiety related stress is causing the periods to be scanty and might be the reason for your odd periods.

You can take a blood pregnancy test for double confirmation and peace of mind.

It is important to consult your gynecologist and get clinically examined. Tests including ultrasound scan of pelvis and blood levels of hormones might be required after clinical examination.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
