What Causes A Small Hard Bump On Forehead After An Injury?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 May 2015
Question: I was moving an old tv set, very heavy, a week ago and it fell hitting my forehead above my brow on my left eye. It swelled immediately to the size of a golf ball. I iced it. It seems to be healing although it is still black and blue and yellowing in some spots. I am very concerned because there is a small hard bump in the middle that is not going down. it has been a week since the incident. What can I do ? it is on my face and do not want to be disfigured.

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload a snap if possible

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.Thanks for your query.

I have throughly read your query and deeply understand your concern.I am glad that the wound is healing.

This is called as black eye and is named because of its appearance. The lump is hard because of the collection of blood locally due to popping of the blood vessels supplying the soft tissue.

According to me it takes a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks for this blood to get absorbed locally. Since the tissue swelling is coming there is absolutely no need to panic.Normal skin color will be restored for sure once the swelling resolves. This is little time consuming and heals in its natural course.

Is the tissue soft(dough like feeling) in places where it is yellow?

Continue the good job of icing or hot bag application locally to hasten the process. Don't press the swelling.

I would really appreciate if you can upload a snap using reports tab on your page to visualise the size and appearance & help you further.

I uploaded a picture and sent it to you. I am most concerned about the hard bump in the center. The rest seems to be healing alright. Please help. I don't know what to do. It has remained the same size for the past week. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It shall subside for sure.Takes minimum of 4 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for the sharing the snap.

I completely understand your concern.I presume the injury is due to the contact with hard substance.Yes, this shall definitely resolve over a period of time and is self limiting.Since it hit the bone hard, the tissue as well as the bone has swollen and swelling will gradually restore to normal over a few weeks(especially the bony thing). Donot panic.

Get well soon.
