What Causes A Stinging Feeling On The Tongue?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Feb 2015
Question: I usually brush my tongue with no problem at all. Yesterday I noticed a stinging feeling as if I had something too hot to eat. I hadn't burned my tongue, so I looked at it in the mirror and there are spots missing from the top of my tongue. It was then I realized I had spit out some chunks earlier that day. Maybe coincidence, but it hurts when swallowing solid foods and saliva. It feels like swallowing a hard boiled egg whole. Could these two symptoms be related? What would cause chunks of my tounge to come off so easily???

Brief Answer:
Traumatic/nutritional deficiencies most likely

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having difficulty in swallowing.

As per your clinical details, it appears to be inflammation of tongue secondary to nutritional deficiencies or traumatic (overuse of tooth brush).

In case of tongue inflammation, papillae lost and tongue becomes smooth (difficult to swallow solid foods). Coated secretions of mucosa come off during washing or brushing.

I suggest you to consult your physician or ent surgeon and get detailed ent examination, If necessary blood tests for nutritional deficiencies (iron, folic acid, vitamin b12) depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.
Meanwhile I suggest you start multivitamin medications once a day
