Brief Answer:
Salivary gland infection can be suspected.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking Health care magic forum.

I have gone through your query. The problem you have can be due to reasons like salivary gland infection or injury or temperomandibular joint arthritis.

Do you have pain on temperomandibular joint just in front of ear while opening mouth wider. In case of arthritis of this joint this will be characteristic. And if positive then NSAIDs like ketoprofen for short term and ice pack application locally will be helpful.

Salivary gland infection can be viral or bacterial. Bacterial occurs in case of poor oral hygeine and in case of severe pain and swelling antibiotics will be required. But most cases will be viral and self limiting. Symptomatic treatment like oral hygiene, using mouth washes and NSAIDs like Nimusulide or ketoprofen will help. Local ice pack application will be helpful for swelling also. Sucking lime candy is also helpful in relieving such swelling.

If the condition persist and more swelling is there or associated with high fever then you should visit your GP or physician.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.

Thanks.
