What Causes A Tingling Sensation In Lower Right Shin?

Posted on Fri, 11 Apr 2014
Question: Hello Doctor: I awoke in bed this morning with a 'tingling' sensation in my lower right shin (about 6 inches above the ankle area). I get a chronic sequence of 2-4 secs of tingling followed by 7-12 secs of relief with the tingling/relief going on and on. I have had no trauma to the area. I'm concerned as to what this could be and if there may be some opportunity to gain relief ?. Thank you for your help !

Brief Answer: Take vitamin B 12 supplements. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for posting your query. The tingling sensation in the lower right shin can be due to compression of nerve root at the back or spinal cord, Lack of blood supply to the legs as a result of plaque formation in the blood vessels, diabetes, stroke, multiple sclerosis and underactive thyroid. Abnormal levels of calcium, potassium, or sodium in your body and a lack of vitamin B12 can also cause tingling. Firstly, I’ll request you to get your blood sugar/HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) tested to rule out Diabetes mellitus. Also get your thyroid hormones levels evaluated. You can take some vit B12 for some days and see if the symptoms improve. I hope this answers your query.
