Brief Answer:
MRI , if marked swelling

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

A warm, tender and swelled up knee should not be taken lightly. If upon physical examination suspicion of septic arthritis is found then aspiration of the joint fluid should be done to rule out or confirm the diagnosis. If there is marked swelling of the knee then an MRI must be advised as its the best way to visualize the structures involving the knee.
