What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: My daughter has sporadic bloating and abdominal pain which intensifies when she walks, and has had diaharrea. She has no fever, and no vomiting. Her appetite is OK. She is 27, visiting us. Should we be concerned about the possibility of appendicitis? If so, is there a test that can determine whether or not she has an inflamed appendix?

Brief Answer:
not likely to be appendicitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Appendcitiis typically starts as pain periumbilically that migrate to lower right quadrant within 8-12 hours and pain increases constantly and after 24 hours is intensive and nausea with vomiting occur. after 2-3 days inflamation of appendix is advanced and can lead to perforation and then fever may occur. so inflammed apendicits is acute disease that should be surgically managed.crampy pain that lasts for week or months isnt likely to be appendicitis. also diarrhea isnt typical sign of it but can be present in some cases. bloating isnt typcial sign as well. so only if there is pain in lower right quadrant associated with nausea, poor apetite and vomiting, you should be worried. otherwise, this is probably just enerocolitis.

LAb test(inflammatory markers) and ultrasound are usually enough to rule out diagnosis of appendicitis so she can check this if there are concerns.
