What Causes Abdominal Cramps, Pressure In Lower Abdomen And Difficulty Urination?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: The last few weeks I have had abdominal cramping and a strained feeling in my lower abdomen ( left side ). I have also experienced difficulty urinating mostly in the evening and frequent trips to the bathroom during the night. I went in last week and blood tests were ran by my general doctor with normal good blood results, normal urinalysis, and psa level of 1.7. Have been on Avodart, .5 mg, for several years with 1.4 psa test results. My bowel movements have been good, but more frequent than normal. Usually one movement a day and recently approx. 3 a day. Nothing unusual looking in the stool.

Brief Answer:
You should consult urologist and have colonoscopy done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your symptoms seem to point on two different issues.
Problems with urinating are most likely caused by prostate enlargement which can not be controlled with Avodart anymore. Urologist consult is a good idea and should be done.
Abdominal cramping, stool patter change can be caused by some large intestine problem. Please note that over the age of 50 the risk of colon cancer significantly rises. That is why, any abdominal symptoms, and for sure stool pattern change should be checked with colonoscopy.
Negative blood work and urine analysis do not rule this condition out.

So please consult urologist and get colonoscopy done.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
