Question : Hi I recently had a contrast CT scan for abdominal discomfort/pulling sensation and intermittent high volume watery diarrhea (only happened once a week). The scan results say small bowel fine. No small or large bowel functional or mechanical obstruction. It did say short segment narrowing, mucosal enhancement and irregularity across a 20mm medial long segment of the distal ascending colon. There is concern for an underlying stricture (inflammatory or potentially malignant). There is NO surrounding pericolonic fat stranding or extra-luminal soft tissue mass/lymphadenopathy. NO ascites. What does this all mean? I am very worried. I have a colonoscopy scheduled but have not spoken to anyone about this report.

Brief Answer:
Ct-scan reports are needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi !

I read your query and would like to help you with my advice. Can you upload all the data and reports you have so i will be able to XXXXXXX them by myself ?

From what you are reporting, there is narrowing of one segment of large bowel (distal ascending colon) with mucosa enhancement (involvement), indicative for:
- inflammatory bowel disease
- any possible tumoral mass

Findings are inconclusive until colonoscopy is done. To my opinion, it is inflammatory bowel disease, but, I need to have the ct-scan reports and wait for colonoscopy!

I'm waiting for the data to be uploaded.

I dont have electronic copies of the scans themselves.

Some more info. I had my internal haemorrhoids removed 3 years ago they used to come out sometimes. At that time that said they did a colonoscopy that was all clear.

I have a history of mild tummy upsets. Normally occasional for one night at a time. Often after big meal. Also had gastro 8 times last year as my kids are in childcare.

The last 3 months I have had non stop pulling feeling in urq. Ultrasound revealed fatty liver and tiny liver probable cyst. I have radically changed my diet to largely fresh fruit veges n legumes. No more diarrhea but still urq discomfort (no pain). Also have long term lower back pain largely after sleeping. Lots of tummy and bowel gurgling but rarely pain unless diarrhea attack.

I wondered if serious are the results of NO lymph node size changes, soft masses etc a good sign its contained. I am mother of 3 and 4 year old and very anxious.

Brief Answer:
No fear for malignancies

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for providing more info regarding your ct-scan reports.

From what you are describing, it looks like a possible inflammation or infection of your bowels.
As long as no lymph node or other masses was noted, no fear for tumor or malignancies.

I advise to relax and to wait for colonoscopy reports.

All the best!
