What Causes Abdominal Pain And Leg Tenderness Post Withdrawal From BC Pills?

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Aug 2016
Question: I recently went off of birth control after only one pack. It was causing side effects that weren't worth it for me. However, I have been having bad abdominal pain and leg tenderness and pain. The leg pain is in my calves and my knee joints (the back of them). I went to the hospital as I was afraid of appendicitis, but my appendix was fine. I'm nervous what could be causing this leg pain. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound and color doppler for the calves.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/21 - went off birth control after one pack due to side effects - pain in abdomen - appendicitis ruled out - calf pains - wants to know the reasons and whether to be concerned about...
Yes, you should be concerned for the pain in calves.
Birth control pills are known to cause pain in the calves and hence we should find the cause and treat accordingly ASAP.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Ultrasonography and color doppler of the calves to see about DVT, that is deep vein thrombosis.
Clinical evaluation and actual examination helps to decide the cause and give the treatment accordingly.
Please give feedback about hte clinical diagnosis and the lab/ ultrasound or CT scan reports, related to pain in abdomen and the calf and any other symptoms that you have.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to give feedback and ask for
