What Causes Abdominal Pain Under The Right Side Ribcage?

Posted on Wed, 3 Sep 2014
Question: Hi there, after lunch I was greeted with an intense bout of upper abdominal pain on the right side under my rib cage. Walking makes it worse. I went in the pool and was fine for 20 minutes but now it's back. It's making it a bit difficult to breathe and I'm feeling shakey.

Brief Answer:
It could be Gallbladder disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for posting in health care magic.
Liver and Gall bladder are present in the upper right corner of the abdomen below the ribcage.Stones in the gall bladder or any infection in it can cause pain in that area.
These lesions can be excluded by an Ultrasound abdomen.
If Ultrasound abdomen is normal, acid peptic disease has to be considered. Upper GI ENDOSCOPE will confirm the diagnosis.
Hence, I request you to consult your doctor and get an Ultrasound abdomen. If it is normal, please ask for upper GI ENDOSCOPE.
Till these tests, I prescribe antispasmodic tablet and a PPI inhibitor like Rabeprazole to my patients with similar complaints.
If all the investigations are normal, then it could be muscular pain.
Nothing to worry . If you have any queries, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
