Question: Had abdominal swelling on the left side of my stomach a few days ago, I went to see My GP. He stated That I may have Colitis due to the discomfert and swollen abdominal area. He prescribed me some pills called mesaalmine 1.2 g tablets. They helped but only alittle, Now I noticed I am getting hip cramps that and still have the sweilling on the left abdominal side. Is this consistant with crohns disease ?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Lowet left abdomin pain can be caused by diverticulitis, ovaries cyst, urinary tract infection.
To diagnose Crohns disease it is necessary to perform colonoscopy with samples collection. Without it, mesalazine treatment is a misteake.
Typical Crohns disease symptoms are diarrhoea with mucus and blood, bloating, weight loose.
I suggest you to consult gastrologist. Blood work, CRP, urine analysis, abdominal ultrasound should be done and colonoscopy considered.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards
