Question : I am a 50 year old woman and I have not had a period for about 3 months now, two days ago I noticed on my left side a niggle sort of pain in my lower abdomen, and I was wondering what the causes it might be. I can say also that the last 2 months I have been really stressed also from family problems. Can you help?

Brief Answer: Could be onset of menopause! Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about this pain and the absent menses for the past two months. Given your age and th the absence of menses, it could signal the transition into menopause as you are around the average age for this. However, there are several other factors that can cause this like stress, disease and at times just no reason is identified as to why. If this pain was just a one tie observation, I will suggest that you stay calm and monitor to see if this would again happen. If it should or become worsening, I will suggest that you consult and OBGYN for examination and investigations. Also, what is it that has been stressing you this much lately? is it something that you may want to share with me? I would be very happy should you consider doing so. I may have some ideas to help you with. In all, monitor and seek medical attention should the pain become worse. The absent menses may signal the onset of menopause.
