What Causes Acne On Nose After Nidtroin?

default
Posted on Thu, 1 Oct 2015
Question: i have been consulting a dermatologist since last 6 months.and underwent prescription as nidtroin 20mg and Tronin 0.05 mg(results were quite better when i was using this). Post this my doctor had advised me to apply only Tronin gel and stop the pills. But i realized after stopping the pills that the oil acne on my nose started appearing again. NOTE: these acne are below the skin on the front area of my nose i can sense the acne when i touch.

Could you please suggest me a better prescription?

Brief Answer:
Can restart Isotretinoin 20 mg cap. along with tretinoin gel; stop Minoz-OD

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have noted down your concern.

The lesions which you have on your nose are most likely closed comedones which are actually deeply set acne.

The oral capsule 20 mg which you took initially actually contains 'Isotretinoin'. Tronin 0.05% gel contain tretinoin.

Isotretinoin is comedolytic i.e breaks down Or dissolves these deeply set comedones/ acne lesions, as you also must have noticed that your condition improved when you were using Oral isotretinoin along with tronin gel.

Though tretinoin gel is also comedolytic but using it alone may not prove to be as effective as combining Oral isotretinoin and tretinoin together.
Obviously combining isotretinoin and tretinoin would be more effective as individual comedolytic action of these would add up and produce better results.

In my view you can be re-started on Oral isotretinoin capsule along with tronin gel.

However if you need to start on isotretinoin you must stop Minoz -OD i.e minocycline which you are taking currently.
Minocycline is antibacterial and acts mainly on inflammatory acne i.e red, pustular acne. It has no effect on comedones and it anyways cannot be combined with Isotretinoin (is contraindicated with isotretinoin) because it can cause headache if combined with isotretinoin.
