What Causes Acute Shut Down In Renal Function?

default
Posted on Sat, 27 Sep 2014
Question: Hi, my mother aged 62 years.....was suffering from UTI for 6 years. Recently her creatnine level reached 5.80 and there was acute shut down in renal function. Infection was already on the higher side. We took her to Sir Gangaram Hospital, XXXXXXX Dr. Put the DJ stent in SITU, and cleared the bladder, which was full of pus and blood clots. Meropanem and xylistin antibiotics etc were given to her for one month. Now her creatnine level is on 1.60, and discharged from hospital. Antibiotics are still running feronem....
Problem is that again she has started to get fever 99.9 on daily evening. Previously she used to pass urine on every 30 minutes, but now on the break of 3-4 hours...and there is swelling on her full body. Even after given insulin as per the chart, blood sugar is going high.....350-500 @Approx.

What can be the reasons, kindly help.

Brief Answer:
She had acute Renal Shut down due to severe UTI.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your mother had acute renal shut down due to severe UTI .may be secondary to Diabetic Nephropathy.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Is her urine culture done recently to trace out the organisms and sensitivity pattern.?

Continue taking antibiotics as per culture report

Her Blood sugar levels are high due to active infection in body and needs to be monitored judiciously with Insulin coverage .

It takes long time for chronic UTI to get cured and one has to take antibiotics as per culture report done at frequent intervals .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,
I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
