What Causes An Abnormal Allele For Cyp2d6 /4 And Cyp2c19/ 2?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: I received from a serious genetic Co. results showing that i have an abnormal allele for cyp2d6 /4 and for cyp2c19/ 2 (non functionals).
As far as i can read in the Web, science still is discussing if these abnormal functions can make an "intermediate metabolizer" and some scientists say that i can be an intermediate metabolizer, depending on the number of abnormal alleles (one or two). Since i have some bad reactions to some meds that work trough this cyp (2d6 and 2c19), i would like to know if maybe i am an intermediate metabolizer. I am on Lexapro 60 mg (without a full success -something strange- for some OCD symptoms created before by Solian/Amisulpride), Zyprexa 5 mg (instead of Solian), Klonopin 2mg and Keppra 1500 mg.
Thank you beforehand for information about effects of these non functional alleles and drugs, if i can have a clear information, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
The genetic make up will come in intermediate metaboliser

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome again

I can understand your concern. You have abnormal allele for CYP2D6/4 and non-functional allele for CYP2C19/2. If we go by literature and available information based upon genetics then that genetic makeup would fall in intermediate metaboliser (IM). Presence of two or more abnormal or non functional alleles for a particular enzyme would make an individual poor metaboliser (PM).

Both PM and IM remain at risk of drug reactions and drugs should be used with caution in them and in controlled doses.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask again if you have more doubts.
