What Causes An Enlarged Lymph Node In The Neck?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 May 2016
Question: I had an ultrasound of my neck after finding a small swollen lymph node on the left side. The ultrasound showed a small cluster of small lymph nodes. I went to an ENT for a second opinion. He said it was so small that there was no reason for concern. Since then I have a much larger sized enlarged lymph node in my neck right beside my clavical as well as one show up on my pelvic bone and one my be two in my groin area. What should my next steps be? Supposed to have an ultraound tomorrow, but feel that there Re other, more conclusive tests that should be done.

Brief Answer:
Lymph nodes

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

Ultrasound of the nodes alone is not a conclusive test. Biopsy of the lymph node, preferably an excisional lymph node biopsy should be done to rule out a sinister cause such as malignancy or tuberculosis. Complete blood count, ESR and LDH should also be done. Please consult your doctor regarding this decision.
