What Causes An Excessive Sleepiness And Lower Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Apr 2023
Question: Hi,
Symptoms- low resting heart rate
Low blood pressure. Tmd- from recent surgery, vertigo on same side
Sedentary
Weight gain
Tired/ sleep
I take citalopram for 3 months, thyroid is normal (2 years ago), low iron ( added supplement 6 months ago).
...................................................................

Hi,
My blood pressure on different days and times
91/60, 99/58, 98/59
My resting heart rate 49
Giddiness when rolling over or bending, not upon standing from sitting position
CBC shows some highs and lows but nothing the doctor has raised concern about
I have had 4 surgeries in past year..... no signs of heart issues found during surgery
Menoghoreah (excessive menstruated bleeding) but had surgery d& c. Due to polyps
Surgeries- epidural c5-c7, acdf c5-c7, shoulder laproscopy, septorhinoplasty
Mammogram clear
Colonoscopy clear
My right jaw joint nerve pain ( multiple intubation)
Right ear tinnitus accompanying jaw pain.

In addition
My breathing slows too much with use of pain killers. A little goes a long way... not taking any since surgeries were successful.
And, I have never been successful at consuming alcohol. I get red face, really “drunk” on 2 glasses of wine and feel ill the next day or two. It is really unfair :).

My complaint is that I am tired. So tired. I sleep 12 hours a day. Previously, I had insomnia due to pain and anxiety. But since December 22 all I do is sleep. I don’t take care of my hair or shower because I am tired. I wear pajamas and sleep.
2 years ago I weighed 106 lbs. I was active, worked as dental hygienist, and never watched tv. Maintained my appearance well.
Now....145lbs, no work, watch tv. Sleep sleep sleep.

Addendum
My resting heart rate is 47

Kind regards
doctor

Brief Answer:

Needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

After going through the medical details provided by you I would like to tell you that low resting heart rate or blood pressure itself is not a disease.

I would like to know how low your resting heart rate goes and how low is the blood pressure and do you get any symptoms like giddiness or lightheadedness that time?

Also it's advisable to get following tests done

1. Complete Blood Count
2. Thyroid function test
3. Echocardiography
4. ECG

Kindly discuss this with your treating doctor and get it done. I hope this information will guide you properly. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

Thanks for providing detail.

After going through all the details I would still like to suggest you to get the following tests done.

1. Ecg
2. Echocardiogram
3. Thyroid function test
4. Kidney function test
5. Serum electrolyte levels
6. 24 hrs holter monitoring

All these test will help to understand the underlying cause of your increased sleep cycle as well as a lower heart rate.

I hope this information will guide you properly.
