Question: Hello

I have other symptoms but today I realised that I could not smell eg coffee. Then when I put pepper up my nose I was not able to sneeze. Is this common?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Reversible causes should be addressed at first

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

Anosmia(loss of the sense of smell) can be due to a number of causes that include Sinusitis, toxic chemicals exposure, Nasal polyps, previous ENT surgery or head trauma.

You've mentioned that you've other symptoms, please let me know what other symptoms do you have...

If this has occurred just suddenly and wasn't a congenital(present from birth) condition then most likely it's to do with the sinuses or nasal mucosa being inflamed. Steroids and/ antibiotics with nasal decongesting agents can be advised for such reversible causes to restore the sense of smell.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Please consult your doctor before taking any medication

Wishing you the best of health

Thanks
