What Causes Anemia?

default
Posted on Sat, 9 May 2015
Question: I am general active male and attend a gym 3 times per week, age 65, but have occasionally had grogginess in AM.
In the last week I have become very easily fatigued and dizzy at times with slight or occasional headache.
Prior to that I did have occasional headache but no fatigue, until after giving blood at Red Cross.
I had a blood test and RESTING EKG done on Monday with nothing obvious except iron level at low end (not sure what the amount was).
My female friend and I were hiking a few weeks ago and we noticed a very small tick on her arm with a red shape similar to that of a deer tick, but nothing was noticed on me. She went to a clinic and had a shot an is fine. Wondering if lymes disease acts in this manner?

Brief Answer:
definitely not Lyme disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.

Your presenting symptoms are quite common and not really specific to any particular condition. Anemia can cause these symptoms and since your iron level is low it might mean that your hematocrit level might be low. Another reason supporting this thesis is that some of your symptoms developed after blood donation. At last some dehydration(at 65 one becomes vulnerable to dehydration) and climate changes can enhance this situation.

Lyme disease definitely does not present this way, so I would not recommend further queries on this.

Do not worry. It seems a complete benign condition. Make sure to take regularly the iron tablets, drink plenty of water and avoid sun exposure during these days.

Hope this helps. Please feel free using MHC again.
